To Zak, From Max: Can you set up a scramble to stop anymore crabs being used unlawfallly through the comm-net?

Alpesh has finished setting up the explosives. "It's just enough to dislodge the viewport from the airlock so we can depressurise it and open the door. Just find a turret to stand behind and you should be safe."
He then says to Max: "Just give the order and I'll blow it, officer".

As people start wandering off to their nearest turret Alex the security officer shouts a warning "The second crab is above us on a collision course. Ready weapons!"
Everybody looks up and sure enough there's a crab looming overhead, chasing the tail of Jefferson Station as it spins. It's weak jets thrusting to keep it on track for a target that's perpetually curving away from it. It's more than breaking-even and appears to slowly drift lower and lower with every passing moment. No wonder it got so close without being spotted.

"Someone verify there's nobody in it, quickly!" orders Alex but before anyone can do anything Max barks "There's not enough time, Alex, blow it away! Every one hit the deck now!"
"Launching missile!" responds Alex and fires a Magmatron at the crab. It's still around 40 metres away and starts steering out of the path of the missile but the "'tron" is too quick for it. There's a silent flash of light and the crab is reduced to a rapidly expanding cloud of debris of varying sizes. Some of the pieces are glowing with heat. Random bits spin violently in all directions through space like savage shurikens. Within a second a vicious metal rain falls on the surface of the station and various people on it. Everybody was taking cover so Alpesh could blow the door but some hadn't made it yet. The security team were still in the open, ushering people into cover and so was the random engineer who you had just rescued from the first crab.

The engineering team find their makeshift metalloid foam shields studded with shrapnel and some parts they might recognise from inside the crab. The security team have the occasional bit of metal ebedded in their armour but no punctures. Max's faceplate has a large crack across it from where something struck it but didn't penetrate.
The random engineer (who's suit has "Mitchell, G" stencilled on the chestplate) sends an SOS and has suffered a puncture. There's a large gash in his left thighplate and atmosphere is visibly leaking from around a charred piece of metal that has embedded itself there. "It's in my leg. I need a freakin' medic!" he exclaims over the local comm.

Max : "Yeah, I'm on top of it. Trying kick out the hacker from this machine..." takes cover from the blast of the second crab "Bloody hell. Erm, and er, track his location. Don't wait, I'll catch you fellas up."

Direct Laser Comm to Alpesh : "Can you help me track this bastard down? Crab Free-Access Key is now 0800-34F9-FF8E-510A-BBD6-F1F3."

Continuing to hide beneath metalloid sheild whilst working.

Mitchell, the Engineer, depite being in great pain begins to relate the story that brought him out here in the first place even as he pulls out a roll of Vacc Tape. He talks whilst he winds it round his leg in an attempt to seal his suit and avoid decompression.

"Man, I was going over that mag crab that the guy was flying when he was shot at. My engineer display was saying how nothing was working and how it looked like the reactor was about to fail and explode. After about a minute of it not exploding I decided to get inside and check the reactor failsafe. Even as I was looking at it there were big red warning signs around it and readouts that said it was beyond repair. I opened it up and it was fine. I looked around the cockpit and saw that the transceiver wasn't operational so I opened that up, too, and guess what? It was fine. It was even receiving messages. So basically I'm thinking that the diagnostic software is screwed and misreporting failures. As I check the Crab's computer I can see that things are being changed really fast and that it's back to normal."

He winces as he puts some of the tape over the debris stuck in his leg.

"At this point I think that you guys ought to know about this before you head off to R20. Someone hacked this guys crab because he was snooping about up here so I was wondering what was going to happen to you. Whoever was changing the memory on the crab must have made it come after me so I couldn't tell you anything. They've got engineering under their control and they must have the comm net compromised, too, otherwise they couldn't have hacked in remotely. That Crab was still set to manual flight when I left it. There's no way it was a standard engineering telepresence pilot."

He finishes taping up his leg and you can see a small red light reflected off his face has become green. "I'm sealed. I just hope I can get this crap out of my leg before I bleed to death or something. I wish I had a big-ass suit like you guys. Preferably one with those crab-smashing missiles. If this hacker is as crazy as he is good then we might have a crab army coming for us any time soon. I think I'll feel safer once we get through the airlock."

"Oh, that reminds me." says Alpesh. He doesn'tvisibly move but behind him there's a flash and the hull vibrates. A plume of gas rises from the airlock and slowly peters out. Alpesh works the manual opener mechanism and the doors slide apart.
I'll seal up the hole in the viewport when we're inside and then we'll repressurise it and get some access to the interior.

To All:

"Right....everybody inside, now, we want to avoid anymore crab attacks!..., Alex....you and me in first, everyone else follows us. Sec team Beta, cover our back and watch over alpesh as he seal the door behind us!!"

To Zak: " Zak, can you track this 'hacker', i want a few words with him.

Paul: SEE personal thread.

Lets move....

To Max: "We're trying to track him now.

"I've got this Crab under control. I'll anchor it to the hull near the hatch and manually disconnect it's wideband transceiver antenna leaving only Laser access. It might come in useful later. Give me five..."

Zak plods on over to the now (hopefully) landed Crab.

Zak quickly and easily manages to manually disable the wideband tranceiver on the Crab he took control of.

Max and Alex are the first to climb into the airlock, weapons ready.
Whilst you are all getting into the airlock Jon catches you up and gives Mitchell a hand.

Once inside Alpesh closes the outer door before attaching a safety line to a ladder rung and jumping down onto the floor. He crouches over the broken window and fills it with metalloid foam while everyone else hangs onto the ladders and steps in the airlock walls. The ambient light in the air lock is red, signifying zero pressure. Alpesh sets the foam using his arc welder and activates the repressurisation cycle. The light flashes for about 30 seconds and then stops. For a moment everything is dark and then the white emergency light comes on. Alpesh hits the control for the inner door and, suprisingly, it opens. "Must have just been the outer door that lost power." he muses.

Looking up out of the airlock you can see that some of the ceiling panels have been dislodged by the collision. The dim amibient emergency lighting is active in this part of the ring and you can see the strips of escape route lights firing in sequence, creating the optical illusion of a red light travelling in a path towards the nearest exit.

We're all in the same location for the moment so we'll be using this thread for general "I'm doing this" until you split up again. Of course, use the personal threads for individual questions as usual.

Who's first out the air-lock? And what's the plan from here?

I'm checking everyone for injuries, and if Mitchell is the only one hurt then I'll see what I can do about his leg.

How's the air pressure? Are we still in vacuum or can we take the suits off (for medical reasons)?

I think the first step is to secure the surroundings areas. What do you guys think!

Scanning Mitchell, Jon sees that the hot debris cauterised the wound pretty much instantly. His armour took most of the punishment. Moving the leg would cause the flesh around the debris to move, potentially damaging itself on the sharp metal. If you want Mitchell to move around then it might be worth removing it. If you're ok with keeping him still then he's ok as he is.

The atmosphere inside this part of the station is stable at 1 atmosphere of pressure and is suitable for breathing.

The Security team think securing the perimeter around the airlock and then planning a route to the key power distribution nodes would be a good idea.
So far only a single hacker has been identified as an attacker/saboteur. There may be others.

While WreckSec are doing their thing, call up an engineering survey of R20 and find out what's hot and what's not. If the computer is being difficult try to find a manual jack (some locate an engineering node and pull the panel off) and see what can be gleened by poking around in there.

The engineer who was surveying R20 was shot down so the survey is incomplete. There is a mixture of powerloss and decompression in a number of the sections. Most of the sections around you are fine but here's a crappy text schematic of the ring (side view of main concourse. If you walk along the concourse you'll travel around the circumference of the ring):

Code:

                   D#X
                  O\ /X
You are here --> O -C_ #
                  O | #
                   OOP
Legend: O = OK
X = Not there any more
        # = Powerloss + Decompression
        P = Just Powerloss
        D = Just Decompression
C = Core 20 (with radial spokes shown as lines)

Specify direction in terms of movement clockwise/anticlockwise around the ring. In areas with no power the gravity is going to be variable, like being on a slower, but more powerful flying teacup ride.

Something worth noting is that a direct physical connection to the comm grid would be less prone to interception or disruption, so there's still at least one good reason to find an engineering station.

"Guys, we need at least a partially functional Engineering Node. And quick if we're gonna direct some heavies onto our hacker. There should be something usable about 180m in, anticlockwise. If that's okay."

Agreed.

OK Zak, you get on with that with your team. My Sec team will split up in two and we will check the whole ring for intruders or anything else!

(Paul: i seem to recal that there were 5 security + me is that correct?)

Assuming it is: Alex + alpha team are going clock wise, Beta team and myself will be going anticlockwise and we will meet on the other side. Keep in secure SEc radio contact, scramble channel 7F5Beta Beta. And remember, if you find someone or something, only try to apprehend if it does not endanger you team!

Jon: hows the patient? well stay here until we have secured the perimiter, OK!

"Max, a good section of R20 is scrap metal now. I don't think we're going to be able to meet up on the other side. Glad you're coming with us tho."

Plod on behind our escort.
