I suppose the first thing to do is find a common game and time to begin with. I have access to The Misters'* TeamSpeak server that we can use as well (all you need is a mic).

I humbly suggest Unreal Tournament to kick off with. Most of us have it and you don't need the CDs to play it from a full install anyway.

*A little group of gamers that I belong to. Kev will know it as being a splinter group from the old 16AA.

Who has the fattest pipeline? (That's not something you hear every day now is it.) If we plan to host our own servers, rather than jump on to existing ones with 'other people', then the guy with the fattest pipe gets to host.

Those of us on cable have the best upstream rate.

I have a server running for any games that can run on Linux (e.g. Unreal Tournament 1999).

The LodgeMonster shall be our UT host then. Cool. Shall we kick off with a short and noisy UT blastage?

What times are best for all? I can pretty much do any time outside of normal 9to5 working hours.

Cool - I shall get my hands on UT - which version? not 1999 I hope!

we should bear in Mind HD2 & Sabre squad and GRAW2 ( they are good - thou only support 4 players in co-op )

Compnay of heroes - opposing forces is pretty good and not nearly as releant on tankies Wink

If you can't notice the big 2K4 tag above then how the beans are you going to see a fusilade of rockets hurtling toward your head?

I played a bit online perfectly well with no-cd; whether or not it does a game key check when joining a server we'll have to see (but I doubt it).

While you're all waiting, download these required updates in readiness:

Megapack (incl. 3369 update)

Editor's Choice Pack

Community Bonus Pack 1

Community Bonus Pack 2 vol.1

Community Bonus Pack 2 vol.2

That should give enough stuff for us oldies to find that's never been played before.

Dave,

We can test your dedicated server box whenever you want to help speed things along. Rather much sooner than later, yeah? "David, it's oyver to yoiew."

I've just ordered second hand from play (7.99 delivered, but they only had one). Play have the stand alone game for 10.50.

Just trying to work out how to run it on Linux - doesn't look too hard - I'll have a mess around when I get the games (prob Tuesday).

Anybody want on old copy of UT1999 and Unreal (as the version I ordered comes with them and Unreal II).

PS I normally use tawt, deity (oh the irony) or sometimes loki as a tagname
