An unsigned letter was found upon Tordath Sunday morning.

Put simply the letter offered that the flag ship of the Sardian fleet would be travelling on Monday, and that at some point in the journey it may find itself without escort!
It then stated that an attack on this ship would without doubt start war!

I have no intention of going through with this!

Who would benefit from a hot war between our peoples?

Madness anyway as a war started within the south seas alliance by us would turn all against. But still, interesting to see who wrote the letter.

We need a spy network. We need people skilled in the way of espionage and subterfuge. I have seven points left unspent (can afford to spend four on anything I choose - remaining three will make up Advanced Healing Potions next time), I'm sure some amongst us have more. between us all, do you think that we could come up with a few four point Expert skills along this path?

I believe you'll find that Morgan is WAAAAAY ahead of you on this one Wink

Plus it has actually helped our cause by showing the Sardians the letter, as they are now investigating their own ranks for the one responsible!

...so where's the news?

...where's the benefits?

This is my point. If we knew we could do such a thing I'd never have suggested it. Either way it seems he's WAAAAAY out-classed by the Sardinians and needs all the help he can get.

...and you, of course, expect never to hear anything even like the truth in response to that investigation. Yes, we have a mutual problem but if they can find any way at all to turn this to their favour they will.

I'm sorry if you got the wrong impression, I'm not trying to put you off!
If you wish to move into 'other' areas of business I have no problem with this.
However the two of you will need to discuss this so we don't keep repeating the same mistakes, or treading on each others toes!
Perhaps pick an area each? Internal and External?

I have a suggestion. I have been doing some spy work, a bit clumsy and they know its me but it has got some positive results. The thing is they KNOW I am working spies and am a bit amateur compared to them. If you want to double up on this and have lots of xp to spend doing it more subtley, I can be the obvious one they are already focused on and you can probably sneak stuff through because they are watching me. Just an idea, I am happy for any help on this. Plus I won't have xp to spend to develop my activities this time. I think we should be able to come up with something, and it would give you something else to do.

Very nice of you to offer. Apreciated greatly. But...

I've had an idea about a new skill. A new branch in medical areas.

At the last game it was aparent that a few players had devised their own skills (be them Expert or otherwise I don't know) so I'll be asking if I can do the same. T'will be Preventative Pharmacology. Basically, popping pills that offer certain resistances against various effects for a short period. I've started to type something up (just sketchy, and unspellchecked, at the mo)...

Preventative Pharmacology X
(requires Field Surgery & Alchemy)

A holistic derivative medical skill that draws influence from the tangible scientific fields of Biology and Alchemistry rather than anything 'mystical'. This school of medicine seeks to offer a more proactive approach to potential ailments through a philosophy of Prevention over Cure.

Such pharmaceuticals would be administered in pill form. The effects of which would not be realised until the drug has started to be metabolised by the beneficiary(1). Once in the subject?s system the effects would remain potent for a set period of time (again, the speed of the subjects metabolism will determine how long the drug stays active(2)). If an effect is to be sustained then the pharmaceutical would have to be administered by the subject at regular intervals.

This discipline requires expertise in the foundation areas of Field Surgery (the study of anatomy) and Alchemy (understanding the properties of various herbal and chemical elements).

Unlike the more mystical preparations, Preventative Pharmacology can cause side effects. As a general rule, the more potent the compound the more severe the side effect. Within this field of medicine it would appear that some things come with a price. It would be the duty of the Pharmacologist to ensure that subjects are made aware of any potential side effects(3).

Such is the nature of mixing compounds that certain drugs within certain physiognomies may be found to be mutually exclusive. Once more, it is the duty of the Pharmacologist to advise the subject how many compounds can be administered concurrently(4).

Drugs would be produced in a manner not unfamiliar to that of the Alchemist (in that ingredients would still have to be collected and concentrated). One would suspect that certain active ingredients contained within compounds would be subject to a 'shelf life'. Any compound consumed after the expiration date would surely be poisonous(5). The shelf life of a drug should be clearely marked on the ampoule and conveyed verbally to the subject. This being a mark of ethical necessity.

1/ A study into the various metabolic systems of the Races of the Archipelago will have to be conducted in order to accurately establish how long it will take for any particular drug to take effect.
Speculation: One would expect the metabolism of the Storm/Stoneborn (empirically, their rapid healing capacity) to be among the fasted. One would surmise that the Human physiognomy proves to be the benchmark by which all others are compared.
2/ A rapid metabolism would result in a rapid onset of the effects of the drug but would cause an increased rate of atrophy of end product (as the compounds are metabolised out). The slower metabolic rate would take some additional time to realise the effect but the compound would stay active for longer.
3/ One would assume that some Races may react more strongly to certain compounds than others. Again, it would be the ethical duty of the Pharmacologist to fully understand the impact of racial variance.
4/ Some Races may have a greater tollerance to mixing compounds. Essential study must be undertaken in this field.
Speculation: One would assume that not more than two compounds be present in any one subject at a time. The more hardy Races (Beings of the Maelstrom and purhaps Corpse Moss) may be able to stomach as many as three concurrently.
5/ Overdose would also result in poisoning. Safe dosages must also be clearly conveyed to the subject.

Examples;
  • Lesser Antigenic - Resistance to Lesser Disease for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Lesser Resistance - Resistance to 5min+ Poison for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Lesser Stimulant - Resistance to Sleep for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Lesser Sedative - Induces sleep / calms subject for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Greater Sedative - Induce a deathlike sleep (as Feign Death) for 1hr in 10mins.
  • Aethelwine's Quick'n (cotains Liao concentrate) - +1Dodge and +1Double for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Corrective - Reduces crippled limb recovery to one month (with Surgeon skill), one pill per day.
  • Aethelwine's Sea Legs - Prevents sea sickness, one pill per day.
  • Aethelwine's Phosphadone - Liao substitute. One pill per day for two months to kick Liao addiction.
  • Aethelwine's Concennitrate - Resistance to Fear for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Retinadine - Nightsight / resistance to blindness for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Anabolic - Boost the effect of Medicinal Bandages by +1hit if applied within effect time, for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Lesser Coagulant - Double bleed time for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Augm'nt - +1Mighty and +1HPL for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Strych'n - "Poison 5" in 10mins.
  • Percy's Purest Green - Causes subject to turn snot-green for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Daydream - Causes subject to turn all airy fairy and daft for 1hr in 30mins.
  • Aethelwine's Placebo - Makes subject immediately feel at peace for their final moments (for use with a terminal subjects).
Thoughts? Do I stand a snowball's?

Pdc!

What they might do as some kind of balance is say that some of the more useful ones may have side effects. Such as lethargy, hyperactivity, uncontrollable tiredness etc.

And I'm with Kev on the Liao idea. I'd try it but it aint gonna pass. Smile

Sounds bloody good!

I doubt you will get the Liao cure through, as I understand that certain highly skilled alchemists have been devising a cure for over a year now!

Gevoun combat drugs...!
