Ok, so we've just arrived at the legendary planet of Megalothea. How do we avoid any bored millenia old missile defence systems and the attendant problems with Whales and pots of petunias?

(1) Dodge whichever asteroid field our noble navigator has dropped us into.

(2) Hide behind some small moon in the outer system and scan the system for things of interest. ie. Space Kraken, Things which look like small moons, but are'nt or socking great battle fleets left over from the Great Crusade.

(3) Slowly advance throught the sytem, catalouging as we go.

Of couse this will all take time and eat into our precious time advantage, assuming we got here first.

So we may need to implement Plan A = Ohh look SHINEY! and rush in where Grey Knights fear to tread.

Assuming we have a few days head start, we should scan the system for a few hours, picking out things of interest, and then move in.
Keep scans going, and vox-channels open.
I may be able to rig a vox to pick up on Ancient signals (Forbidden Knowledge Archeotech).

Points of Interest should be Logged and sorted by Priority, for later investigation.

I would like to recommend taking several days, even weeks to scan, including major adjustments to the scanners, before cautiously manoeuvring towards the Prize, but my previous experience with Lord Captain Lavode leads me to believe this advice would not be followed.

Fortune favours the bold. We must make use of our head start and our real space speed advantage to go directly for the prize.

While I doubt our rivals have a Navigator to match one of House Magellan it is possible that they could get lucky and not be far behind us.

Any lead we have must be fully exploited. If they have regressed then we take what we can and establish a claim. If the stll have a central authority we enter negotiation.

That said I expect it to not be straight forward......

So Plan A then.

Of course if there is anything interesting on the outer planets( or hidden behind them) we won't see it until far too late.

Well, I'd still like the Auger Arrays to be running at full power as we approach (maybe we can divert some power from the Shard Cannon? Wink ).
If we spot anything as we charge past, we have the Keel Gun if needed.

The problem comes if there's a fight near the Prize. Running an avoidance in a system where we don't know the orbit tracks of all the major objects (Everything over 1km across0 is likely to be fairly lethal.
