Thinking of running a game featuring vampires for Kev's Saturday group using the Savage Worlds system. This is an ideas thread for hashing out details and stuff, so feel free to jump in.

For this game I'm running with the idea that Vampirism is a heritary condition and the process of becoming a Vampire is usually a gradual one. (I do envision an exception to this, but more of that later).

Certain bloodlines of humans carry the trait to awaken the hunger. Some of them have knowledge of this, others have forgotten in the passage of centuries.

The 4 stages of Vampirism are as follows:

(1) Sleeper. A Basic human. The Hunger has yet to stir. May have some minor arcane background (not sure about that)

(2) Initiate. The Hunger has been awoken. At this level the character would have the ability to use some minor basic abilities. The ability to boost attributes one rank for a short time, the ability to remove shaken status, possibly one Arcane ability at lowest rank of ability. These vampires would feed by the inbibing of the Pyches of others, would occur very slowly, but not require any form of force to do, just interaction. Humans subject to such would be listless afterwards, like a bad hangover.
Initiates would have some minor limitations, maybe just needing always to be wearing shades, poor tolerance to the sun etc.

(3) Adept. The Vampire has progressed to needing to drink blood to fuel the Hunger, although this really only needs to be a token amount, they are still effectively consuming the Psyche of the target. The effects on the humans subject to this would be progressing upwards through addiction withdrawl or serious illness as byproducts.
Powers would be a range of low level arcane abilities, maybe 1 more powerful form. Greater physical resilience and abilities.
Limitations would also be greater also, including penalties for operating in the daylight depending upon how light it is. At this point the Vampire would start to experience discomfort when entering holy ground.

(4) Master. To reach this rank the Vampire must have physically died and his spirit will have walked through the Anubis gate to make a deal with the gods of the Underworld to return. Master Vampires must take at least one 'It Burns' Hinderance, representing an aspect of the physical world which now abhores him for the deals he has made. The more such deals made the more Hinderances they would get, but the more powerful the Vampire might eventually become. Dracula for instance was an extremely formidable creature, but he had a shed load of things that discomforted him.
Powers at this level may well include immunities to certain types of damage, A rack of Arcane abilities, several of them being adept level and one or more Master level capabilities.
The Hunger would be more intense also and is likely to wreak severe pychological damage on those the Vampire feeds upon, when it does'nt simply kill them outright.
Limitations would be at the Legendary level, depending upon the Hinderances taken when the Vampire returns.
ie. Bursting into flame in sunlight, Melting when exposed to water, Being unable to bear the touch of the living earth, being unable to enter a dwelling without being invited in etc.

(4B) The Blood Slave. Some master vampires have the ability to make vampire's of others, by taking them into the underworld and binding them to oaths they make others similar to themselves.
The Blood Slave shares all the limitations as their master and will have the same abilities to develop powers, if the master has'nt got that ability the slave cannot have it.
The master may or maynot have Arcane abilities to control their slaves. But in any case the existence of the slave is bound to the health and goodwill of the Master. If he ever dies they also die. If he revokes thier binding to him they also die.

Specific limitation on powers. The Arcane abilities work by interferring with the minds of mortals or by changing the physical world in specific ways. Many of these abilities were formulated by the Egyptians or similar era nations. The Gods have a certain amount of tech lag. No one has yet found a God who gives dominion over the microchip. Only Master Vampires are likely to do this and their are a vanishingly few of such beings in existance. So in general it is not possible to intimidate a microchip or processor system, although it may be possible to break them.
